Have you got a GREAT astro photo in your collection, like last year’s winner of the Best Astrotourism Towns Nightscape Photo by Virat Shah? Virat’s image is entitled “Desert Dreams”. It was taken at the sand dunes in Nambung National Park which is an Astrophotography Hot Spot near the Astrotourism Town of Cervantes.
The 2024 Astrofest Astrophotography Competition and Exhibition is now open for entries! The competition is open from 20th July and closes at 11:59pm (AWST) on 18th August.
There are a variety of competition categories you can choose to enter. There’s a special award for the Best Astrotourism Towns Nightscape Photo for images taken in the Astrotourism Towns localities.
Who will win the Best Astrotourism Towns Nightscape Photo?
If you’ve been traveling the amazing state of Western Australia with your trusty camera and have taken an image in or around the Astrotourism Towns, then it’s time to enter and show off the beauty of WA’s dark night sky and stunning landscapes.
There is a trophy and a great prize on offer for the winner of the Best Astrotourism Towns Nightscape Photo! You’ll be able to see the collection of selected entries and winners at this year’s Astrofest Astrophotography Exhibition on 9th November.

The winner will receive a trophy and two nights accommodation at the Gascoyne Junction Pub and Tourist Park in a 1 Bedroom Self Contained Unit plus a $75 Gift Voucher to spend at the Gascoyne Junction Pub and Tourist Park Restaurant. Plus one night accommodation at the Mount Augustus Tourist Park in a Self Contained Unit plus a $75 Gift Voucher at the Mount View Dining Room. Total value: $628
What are the Terms for the Best Astrotourism WA Nightscape Photo?
Nightscape entries applicable to the Best Astrotourism Towns Photo must be stated as such; and include the name of the Astrotourism WA Shire/Local Government locality in the submission; and will feature terrestrial elements located in the Astrotourism WA Local Government locality. For the Astrotourism WA Award the eligible Local Government localities include those towns registered with Astrotourism WA, listed on the Astrotourism WA website at: https://astrotourismwa.com.au/towns/.

Over 50 new places for astrophotography and stargazing have been mapped out to encourage visitors to experience WA’s amazing dark country night sky. In a world where light pollution is destroying our view of the stars, WA’s Local Governments have recognised the important value of our natural asset and are working hard to protect and maintain it for generations to come.
