When to look: After 8pm, Friday 7 December 2018. North west.

A close approach between Mars and Neptune, provides a great chance for telescopes to locate Neptune easily as you can’t see it with the naked eye. Even though it will look like a very small, pale blue pinpoint of light, it’s a good planet to tick off the bucket list! It will be directly above Mars.

For telescopes and binoculars: A telescope will show the difference in colours and will be a real delight.

Keep watching: On the 15th, the first quarter Moon will be near Mars providing a lovely mid-month vista in the western evening sky.
