The view is set perfectly, and you’ll be able to capture the Milky Way above this local landmark. Eagle Bluff is 23kms from Denham and is worth the trip to try your hand at astrophotography. There’s a fantastic boardwalk that is stable for setting up camera tripods. Before the sun sets you might even spot some sharks and turtles down below in the clear blue waters.

Try to coincide your visit with a crescent or quarter Moon. The light from the Moon will illuminate the surface of the rock and make it a stunning feature of your image.

Looking for More Astrophotography Hot Spots?

There are more great places to explore for astrophotography in the Shark Bay World Heritage area. So many stars….so little time….

The Galli-Curci Pearling Lugger

Are you ready for some nautical astrophotography? This makes for an interesting and historical scene to image at night. The 1929 built pearling boat is known as the Galla, and its position couldn’t be better. The boat is owned by the Shire of Shark Bay and is permanently moored about 10-15m off shore. You can stand on the beach to take a nightscape image looking to the south west. The street lights from Denham’s main street illuminate the boat and a photographer is able to capture the starry scene behind. Your camera will also capture lights on passing shipping further out to sea.

The Galli-Curci would make an excellent astro-timelapse subject if you’re practiced in this art. The beautiful boat swings around according to the wind and will add great movement to a timelapse with a starry night background.

Facilities: None. However, you’re conveniently close to overnight accommodation.

Mobile coverage (Telstra): Good.

Hamlin Station Stay

Hamelin Station Stay is an astrophotographer’s dream! There are so many subjects to photograph at night. There’s some old machinery, old trucks, the old stables and there’s even a small lake where it’s possible to take images of the stars reflecting in the water on a still night.

If you happen to be staying here, it’s well worth the effort to scout the station during the day and set up for images at night.

Facilities: Camping or the stunningly restored shearers quarters.

Mobile coverage (Telstra): Good.
