It’s only 2kms from the centre of town and is very easy to get to. It’s away from street lights and the large sheds at the Airport make a good barrier to the town light. It’s a great place for stargazing or to take telescopes and binoculars. As you drive into the Airport area, the area that’s been set aside for visitors is in front of the large sheds to your right. Download an aerial map.
The Airport is only used for rare emergency situations. There are no regular flights scheduled. If there happens to be a flight while you’re there, the runway lights will be turned on ahead of the landing. However, you’re still welcome to be in the designated area for observing. The runway lights will naturally impact your viewing, however they will be turned off when the aircraft leaves.
