Right next door to the Kondinin Caravan Park is the Sporting Precinct— a wide, open green space that stretches into the night sky, making it the perfect spot for easy, comfortable stargazing. You can grab some supplies from the nearby supermarket and enjoy a picnic under the stars, or wander over to the Kondinin Hotel for a hearty country meal and a cold drink. Everything you need for a peaceful evening is just a few steps from your accommodation.

Yeerakine Rock Light Horseman Statue

Just a short 10 km drive from the Kondinin town site lies one of the region’s most spectacular spots for astrophotography — Yeerakine Rock. Perched at its summit stands the striking Light Horseman sculpture and ANZAC Mural, which is wrapped around a water tank at the top of the rock, a proud tribute that becomes truly breathtaking beneath the stars.

From the southern vantage point, the rising Milky Way aligns perfectly above the horse, creating a scene that’s nothing short of magical. It’s a moment photographers travel far to capture — a fusion of history, artistry, and the vast Wheatbelt night sky.

Do take care if conditions are windy, as the rock’s exposed surface can challenge both you and your equipment. You can walk or drive to the top of the rock. Secure your tripod and prepare for an unforgettable night under the stars.
