The Shire of Kondinin is brimming with vibrant attractions and warm country hospitality across its three welcoming communities — Hyden, Karlgarin and Kondinin. Whether you’re chasing iconic landmarks, hidden gems or quiet country charm, you’ll find something for everyone here.
Of course, no visit is complete without a stop at Wave Rock — the world-famous natural wonder that draws visitors from near and far. While you’re in Hyden, take time to explore its fascinating museums; from toy soldiers to delicate lacework, you’ll be surprised by the collections tucked away in this small Wheatbelt town.
As you turn into Karlgarin, you’ll be greeted by a flock of striking mallee fowl sculptures. This little community is a hidden gem, featuring a stunning mural on the walls of the Country Club and an RV-friendly parking area near Stafford Park right in the heart of town.
Then there’s Kondinin, the largest of the three towns and the gateway to the region. Wander along art trails with eye-catching murals, explore wildflower walks, bush trails and discover tranquil lake systems. Be sure to call into the Shire of Kondinin office for visitor information and local tips before setting off to explore. Just a 3–4 hour drive from Perth, it’s the perfect destination for a few nights away.
And when the sun goes down, the magic continues. The Shire’s wide open skies are made for stargazing, with plenty of high points to watch breathtaking Wheatbelt sunsets and full moon rises. On dark nights, the stars put on a show — so grab your camera or telescope, or simply lie back and let the Milky Way carry you away.
