This policy explains how Astrotourism WA (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses and looks after personal information through our website, astrotourismwa.com.au.
We take privacy seriously and handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
When you contact us. If you use the contact form on our website, we collect your name, email address and message. If you email us, phone us or message us on Facebook, we’ll have whatever details you send us.
When you browse the site. Like most websites, ours automatically collects some technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, device, the pages you visit and how you found us. This is used in summary form to understand how the site is used, and to protect it from spam and attacks.
We don’t ask for sensitive information and we don’t need it. Please don’t include it in the contact form.
How we use it
We use your information to:
- reply to your enquiry
- understand how people use our website so we can improve it
- keep the website secure and stop spam
We don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information. Contacting us won’t add you to a mailing list.
Spam protection (hCaptcha)
Our contact form uses hCaptcha to check that messages come from real people and not automated spam. hCaptcha may collect information such as your IP address, browser details and how you interact with the form. hCaptcha is provided by Intuition Machines, Inc., and its use is covered by the hCaptcha Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Website analytics
We use Google Analytics to see how visitors use our website, for example which pages are popular and how people find us. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as your IP address, device and browsing activity on our site. We only see this information as combined statistics, and we don’t use it to identify you. You can read how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Maps
Our stargazing map is loaded from Google Maps. When you view the map, your browser connects to Google, which may receive your IP address and information about your device. This is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
Cookies
Cookies are small files saved by your browser. Our website uses cookies to make the site work properly and for the analytics described above. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, although some features may not.
Other websites and social media
Our website links to other websites, such as town and accommodation pages and our Facebook, Instagram and X accounts. We aren’t responsible for how those websites handle your information, so please check their privacy policies. If you contact us through social media, that platform’s own privacy policy also applies.
Information stored overseas
Some of the services above (such as hCaptcha, Google and social media platforms) may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States.
Storage and security
Contact form messages are sent to us by email and aren’t stored on the website. We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, and we delete it when we no longer need it. No website or email system is completely secure, though, so please don’t send sensitive information through our contact form.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, at no charge. If you have a concern about how we’ve handled your information, please contact us first and we’ll do our best to sort it out. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
