It is truly spectacular here at night. Bilya Rock is approximately 30kms north of Morawa and is an ideal place to release your inner astrophotographer! The rock itself is an impressive feature at sunset. At the top of the rock there’s a cairn. The story goes that it was placed there as a trigonometrical survey point by explorer, John Forrest, in the 1870’s.

If you’re visiting at the time of a new moon, the small crescent will illuminate the surrounding rock feature to make a special astro-image to remember your night out under the stars.

Morawa’s Big Southern Cross Windmill

At the north entrance to the town of Morawa there’s a huge Southern Cross windmill that is perfect for some interesting astrophotography. The windmill is very tall and makes an imposing structure with the southern sky behind it. An occasional car might pass by. The reflection of headlights on the windmill can add an unexpected result to images!
