The Shire of Mundaring stretches from the foot of the Perth Hills out to the east. You’ll find more than a dozen charming villages along the 59km Railway Reserves Heritage Trail where the Milky Way shines above. What was once a rail line, is now a lineup of dark sky destinations for astrophotography and stargazing. A two or three nights stay will make the most of the experience and allow ample time to visit numerous landscapes under the night sky vista.
When the sun is up, you’ll find seasonal wildflowers amongst a plethora of State Forests and nature reserves. There’s a trail to suit everyone and the country charm will entice you back time and again. Bespoke dining, boutique wineries, markets, art galleries and heritage-listed hotels, inns and taverns wrap you in a warm embrace ready for evenings under the stars.
As the Shire of Mundaring and Astrotourism WA explore dark sky tourism, there will be opportunities to collaborate and improve the view of the night sky for visitors and residents. Being on the doorstep of Perth, there are impacts from city light, and this provides excellent prospects to work together on special responsible lighting projects in the future.
When you’re ready to pack your bag, telescope and camera for a few days away, the friendly team at the Perth Hills Mundaring Visitor Centre will help make your stay out of this world!
