The Shire of Narembeen has created a fantastic stargazing place at Apex Park. What an amazing place for stargazing families! Everything is at your fingertips here – the observing pad, seating, the Giant Planisphere, playground, grassed area, shelters, barbeques and toilets. At night there is some light from nearby streetlights, however it makes a great place for a sunset picnic barbeque before doing some casual stargazing. If you have a telescope, the observing pad is perfect for families.

Looking for Other Observing Sites?
If you’re after a darker night sky a short distance away from the town of Narembeen there are some other great locations to try.
Walker Lake
On the edge of the town, the shores around Walker Lake offer some great opportunities for stargazing. There are some great spots to set up your telescope or take binoculars and a picnic rug for an evening under the stars. The walk trail from the lake links up to Avoca Farm which is fantastic for astrophotography and observing.
Roe Lookout
This lookout gives a wide-open view of the night sky. The site is open and may get windy, but if you have the right conditions a night here under the stars will be spectacular. There are some trees that block some of the view to the north but the southern sky is on show for as far as the eye can see! Explore the area by day before heading back out at sunset for a night of stargazing.
