It’s peaceful and more than reasonably dark at Karragullen Oval. If you’re up for a spot of stargazing, the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye and the adjacent car park is an ideal location to set up a telescope or bring some binoculars for a closer look at our home galaxy! Or simply pack a sunset picnic and a comfy chair for an evening under the stars. Please note that the oval is irrigated after winter and sprinklers are activated a couple of times a week in early evenings and early mornings.

The oval is the starting point for the Munday Brook Walk Trail, offering the chance to enjoy a sunset stroll, soak in the sounds of Armadale’s local birdlife and perhaps spot a kangaroo along the way. As daylight fades, the landscape takes on a different rhythm and the stars begin to emerge, creating the perfect setting for stargazing.

The presence of nearby lights provides an opportunity to explore how thoughtful lighting design can support community needs, protect the natural environment and enhance views of the night sky. Visitors are encouraged to respect the quiet nature of the area, take care around the reserve and leave no trace.

Bedfordale Hall

This hall is in a great location for stargazing parties and gatherings. It can be hired through the City of Armadale’s community services which will allow for the external lights to be turned off for an event. The Bedfordale Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade Building next door also has external lighting, however most of this is blocked by the Bedfordale Hall which creates a darker night sky for telescope viewing.
