Bindoon, in the beautiful Shire of Chittering, joined the Astrotourism WA network in July 2019 and is looking forward to sharing the starry views and space history of this lovely destination.

Muchea, also in the Shire of Chittering, is a significant location when it comes to space travel. It was home to the Muchea Tracking Station which communicated with astronauts in their orbits around Earth in the early 1960’s.

Most famous is the voice recording of Astronaut John Glenn talking to the Muchea Station as he passed over Perth and Rockingham for the first time. It’s when Perth became known as the “City of Light”! Visit John Glenn Park in Muchea to see the story boards. The launch of the Friendship 7 capsule that carried John Glenn around Earth happened on 20th February 1962.
